SUOJI
“SUOJI” refers to ornaments from Northern Asia. It also has the meaning of accumulating decorative pendants. "SUO" translates to Mongolian, generally referring to all ethnic groups in the Northern Asia region. "JI" translates to pendants. Suoji is a traditional ornament from the Tibet Autonomous Region, usually worn on the left ear of men as a symbol of noble status.
From the mid-13th century, the decorative styles of the Yuan Dynasty court began to influence the SUOJI in Tibet, becoming a symbol of extraordinary status among the noble class. During the Qing Dynasty, the decorations of the Mongolian nobility had an even deeper impact on Tibet.
The Tibetan ornaments, based on the decorative shapes of Mongolian designs, gradually evolved into local accessories of the central Tibetan region by incorporating elements of their own culture. There are strict quality requirements for the selection of beads, and at that time, Jiangzi was the most famous Suoji craftsmanship center, where skilled artisans crafted gold, silver, cat's eye stones, coral, turquoise, pearls, and glass into bamboo joint shapes, resulting in slender, unique, and elegantly dynamic designs.
